Yeah, there?s cake. There?s even a shop- a CD and vinyl back section manned by owner Greg Curley, eating fries and dip. But there?s more to this small Ludlow caf? than the sum of it?s two-word title: there?s also a wine-and-beer bar? an underground cavern filled nightly by local musicians and a Wednesday night open mic featuring Ludlow Street?s own Rev Jen, clad in rubber, and Rev Jen Jr, her dog.

In operation since April 2005, Curley?s three-part cafe/store/bar goes for the feel of a small college hangout that just happens to sell vegan carrot cake and choice indie records. Most of the bands are known personally and new artists are featured in rotation on the caf??s main wall; the red paint/wood panel d?cor is artfully slapdash. In Curley?s words, ?It doesn?t feel like Ludlow Street, it feels like Little Rock,? Ann Arbor on the LES, if you will. Surely those Christmas lights are both homey and ironic.
